Using
an Apostille Certificate for Marriage in Slovenia
Do you want to get married
in Slovenia? Not sure which documents you will need? The following
information is provided to help you understand what may be required
to get married overseas using Slovenia as an example.
British nationals who
want to get married in Slovenia should submit the following documents
to the district Registrar Office ( "Maticni urad" at the
"Upravna enota, Oddelek za upravne notranje zadeve")
1. Passport, this may need to be notarised and legalised by Apostille.
2. Birth Certificate (original or certified copy). A legalised copy
may be required for the purpose of document authentication by the
issue of an apostille certificate.
3.Certificate of no impediment can be issued at the British Embassy
Ljubljana. You should present your own and your partner’s
passports and birth certificates. After you have signed an affidavit
before a consular officer in which the applicant declares that he
or she is free to marry the other party. A notice of your marriage
will be hung on the Board in the Consular waiting room. The notice
must be hung on the board for 15-21 days (during this time you have
to stay in Slovenia). After that you will be issued with the Certificate
of no legal impediment (in Slovene and English language). This can
also be done in the UK, where notice must be displayed for 21 days.
This may need to be legalised by issue of an apostille certificate.
4. Documentary proof of dissolution of previous marriages, if any,
e.g. final divorce or annulment decrees. The divorce decree should
be presented to the Slovene district court to be certified as legally
valid in Slovenia. This may need to be legalised by issue of an
apostille certificate.
5. Widow/widower - a Death Certificate of the deceased spouse. This
may need to be legalised by issue of an apostille certificate.
All documents should be officially translated into Slovene language.
Documents are valid for 3 months since the date of issuance.
If required Apostille.biz
can prepare a full set of notarised and legalised documents under
one apostille certificate. This will provide a full set of authenticated
documents to assist with your marriage in Slovenia.
The above example is provided for
information only. We recommend that you enquire about the latest
requirements from the relevant jurisdiction/authority.
