About Credit Card Repair:

One of the problems in having a bad Credit Rating is that it is very hard to find someone who will offer any sound practicable advice on how to repair it.

One of the only ways to repair your Credit Rating is to prove that you're no longer the credit risk you were.

So how can you do this? The answer is to borrow money and repay on time .

However, borrowing money for people with extremely poor or bad Credit Ratings is not that easy. There are some lenders who will offer a Credit Card that guarantees to be issued to borrowers as long as they meet some basic conditions;

For example:

- Hand over an initial cash deposit

- Be a resident in the UK

- Offer proof of your name and address (and be over 18)

- Be neither a bankrupt nor listed on any fraud databases

Every time you apply to borrow money - a mortgage, credit card, personal loan or hire purchase agreement, the provider will run a credit search on you. This is to prove that you are who you say you are, and to check that you have the means to repay any debt.

To carry out these checks, the company will use a credit-reference agency such as Experian or Equifax.

The financial services provider you apply to will allocate a points value to each piece of information on your record, and add it all up to give you a final credit score - if you then fail to hit their target, your application will be rejected.

If you do have or think that you may have trouble applying for a financial product, the first thing to do is get a copy of your credit record. This should help you work out why you were rejected.

A very common problem is simply not being on the electoral roll, so if you recently moved and aren't registered, contact your local council.

Another problem that can arise is whether you have enough credit on your record. If you're new to banking and other financial services then you wont have a record, a situation a lot of students might find themselves in. One way to get round  this is to set up a credit card, make small purchases on it and pay off the balance every month, to establish some sort of history.

Strangely, you can also run into trouble if you've had too many credit cards, for example if you change cards every time the introductory rate runs out.
