If you need a lawyer, for a business matter; family issues; employment law or with a special expertise for your particular requirement then The Law Society of England and Wales maintains and regulates the register of around 116.000 solicitors. Each year solicitors advise the Law Society of their specialist areas of law.

The Law Society of Scotland is the governing body for Scottish solicitors. It was established by the Legal Aid & Solicitors (Scotland) Act in 1949. The main aims of the Society are set out in the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980.
